Waverton Railway Station has one of the last surviving timber railway entrances, following upgrades of many railway stations around Sydney in recent years. When the North Shore railway line was extended south from St Leonards to Milsons Point in 1893, this station was known as Bay Road. The station was renamed in 1929 when the suburb took its name from the Waverton Estate in this area.
This wooden station looks like it could be from northern New England, like Vermont or New Hampshire.
ReplyDeleteI love the old timber railway stations... so Australian and so suitable for the hot weather. I am amazed it has lasted in its original materials and shape.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little station!
ReplyDeleteI hope they aren't planning on pulling it down?
Jayne, I don't think there are any plans to pull it down. If they keep maintaining it, it could be around for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI love railroad stations, love to travel by train and I love your photo for the day. I'm so glad there are no plans to replace it with a new one! Have a great week, Jim!

«Louis» hopes they maintain and keep this station. It has character modern stations lack.
ReplyDelete«Louis» appreciates your update on the old-fashion butcher shops. It's so good to find one now, and «Louis» likes to support them so they don't become completely extinct.
an interesting bit of history. marvelous photos.
ReplyDeleteLong may it continue to serve the good folk of the lower north shore

This station is so lovely...looks a bit unreal to me. So quite and no people. Like a piece of history. Love these shots!
ReplyDeleteLovely shots.
ReplyDeleteI'd like our railway stations were so neat!
ReplyDeleteI love the way they have kept the old station. It has so much character.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this divine. It really is like being in another country yet it's only minutes away from the hub of the city. Wouldn't it be a lovely place to live when you're old. Pruxxx
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that they have retained at least some of these old style station buildings. Interesting photos and history points.
