Glebe Town Hall is located on St Johns Road between Vernon Street and Lodge Street, in the inner west suburb of Glebe. It was designed by Ambrose Thornley Jr in the Victorian Free Classical architectural style and built in 1891. In 1968, the Municipality of Glebe was merged with Leichhardt Council but the building continues to be used as a community and function centre.
What a gorgeous building!...Christine
ReplyDeleteHow important the good councillors of Glebe must have thought themselves in the late 1880s. That town hall is not just attractive and expensive... it is also huge!
ReplyDeleteNow that is indeed a stately town hall. Love the finials on the top.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture. Have a fabulous week!

The roof line detail is simply beautiful! A grand piece of well preserved architecture!
ReplyDeleteSo stately! They don't build them like that any more - unfortunately.
