The former post office and telephone exchange is located on the corner of Old South Head Road and Edgecliff Road, in the eastern suburb of Edgecliff. This heritage listed building was built in 1942 in the Inter War architectural style. It is now used for office and commercial space, including the office of Malcolm Turnbull, the Federal Member for the seat of Wentworth. Today is the Australian federal election and his election poster can be seen displayed here in the window, on the ground floor. If opinion polling is correct, his conservative Liberal Party of Australia, is expected to win today and Australia will have a new prime minister.
Nice post lovely blue sky!
ReplyDeleteInteresting building, I love all the windows allowing natural light inside.
ReplyDeleteI love old building... and Aussie has a lot of it. Great shot!
ReplyDeleteArt Deco was always rather a bulked-up style but by 1942, this post office and telephone exchange was looking positively steroidal :) Interesting that large civilian buildings were still being constructed, right in the middle of the 1939-45 war.
ReplyDeleteThe art deco features are not so obvious at first glance on the exterior. I'm curious to know whether there are many interior art deco features.
DeleteI do like the Art Deco style Jim...shame about the tenant :))
ReplyDeleteShame he wasn't still the Opposition Leader, going into this election, because he would have become our prime minister now.
Deletenice contrast of light and shadows; have a good Sunday
ReplyDeletemuch love...
Odd shape for a building, I'd say! But, I love the color of the bricks-so orange!
ReplyDeleteThe sun setting at that time helps bring out that orange too.
