Leichhardt Public School is located on the corner of Norton Street and Marion Street, in the inner west suburb of Leichhardt. The Infants building was designed by William Kemp in the Victorian Italianate architectural style and built in 1891. A proliferation of signs outside the school at the moment, inludes a banner advertising the school's Spring Fete held last week and an election poster for The Greens on the lamp post for the federal election.
These buildings certainly look like they were built to last. Either that or they have been well cared for over the years. Or both.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful old building Jim, nice to see that they obviously take car of their historic buildings in Liechardt.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful building, lovely design.

ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful building - so very different from what we have in Ontario!
ReplyDeleteTheir Spring Fete must have been quite grand if they a ferris wheel like the one on the sign :)
quite an impressive structure!
ReplyDeleteI like those arched windows!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful school...lucky kids
ReplyDeleteSo different in style from any public school I have ever seen before.
ReplyDeleteI bet all the kids want to go up into that upper structure of the building and explore.
ReplyDeleteThe old school buildings certainly have more style than the new ones being built.
ReplyDeleteThis is not the sort of architectural design you would have expected in mid 19th century Australia, I suspect. Unusual and rather lovely.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comment. Thank you for partying with us Jim.
