Rose of Australia Hotel is located on the corner of Swanston Street and George Street, in the inner city suburb of Erskineville. It was designed by Prevost and Ruwald and built in 1934 in the inter-war free classical architectural style.
Don't know what the story is behind this name. You should look up the story behind the Yellow Rose of Texas. I won't tell it because it isn't family friendly. Hope the Rose of Australia is also an interesting story.
I like the style- it has a lot of character.

Sue, the design seems unique to me.
DeleteWhat a charming hotel!
ReplyDeleteThe design on the corner element of the building is so unique. Almost like a partial chateau tower.
ReplyDeleteThat is certainly different :)
