A view of Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Ramsgate Beach. This rock groyne is one of the sea walls along Lady Robinson Beach which have been built to protect the sandy foreshore. A marker and light sits at the end of the groyne with a sign warning people to keep off the rock wall. Ramsgate Baths is a tidal pool which was rebuilt here in 2015, consisting of plastic tubes and a mesh shark net. This part of Botany Bay has been used for public sea-water bathing since 1924 with the original Ramsgate Baths also known as Pemberton's Baths.

This is a gorgeous composition!
ReplyDeleteDid the shark net work? People used to look out for sharks all the time, but recently we are hearing about them again.
ReplyDeleteYes. They do work in Botany Bay. There are quite a few netted baths at the beaches here.
DeleteAre they getting rid of all the shark nets? I thought I heard something about that. I didn't know they were called Groynes. Thanks for joining #Allseasons!
ReplyDeleteThere has been talk but I don't think they will.
DeletePeaceful beach scene. I searched the internet and learned more about the Baths and that it was replaced by a supermarket.
ReplyDeleteYes. The original Ramsgate Baths dated back to 1924. I'll add some history and links to my previous posts.
DeleteA cute rocky foreshore there
ReplyDeleteGroyne is not a term used here.
ReplyDeleteNever seen this before. Then again; there´s no sharks in Finland. Nice and quiet looking scenery.
