Panania, Holy Trinity Anglican Church

Balmain, shipyard and ferry

A Sydney ferry passes by the  Balmain Shipyard, located at the southern end of Mort Bay, in the inner city suburb of Balmain. The dockyards have been a base for ferry operations as far back as the 1860s.The Golden Grove is a First Fleet Class ferry, acquired by Sydney Ferries in 1986 and is part of the fleet that operates on the Inner Harbour. It was named Golden Grove, after the one of eleven ships of the First Fleet that sailed to Australia in 1787.

Observatory Tower

Observatory Tower is located along Kent Street, in the inner city suburb of Millers Point. Overlooking Observatory Hill, the tower is home to 199 luxury apartments. It was originally built in 1964 as the IBM Centre, an office building with 21 storeys. In 1996 it was converted to apartments with 10 storeys added to the original steel structure.

Millers Point, Abraham Mott Hall

Abraham Mott Hall is a community building located where Watson Road meets Argyle Street, in the inner city suburb of Millers Point. The heritage listed building was built in 1904 in the Federation Arts and Crafts architectural style as the Coal Lumpers' Hall for the Coal Lumpers' Union. Coal lumpers were workers who moved coal and played an essential role on the Sydney waterfront. In 1960, it was named to honour Abraham Mott, a well respected local resident who was active in community affairs. The bus shelter along Argyle Street, formerly the Tram Waiting Room at the Millers Point Terminus, was also built in the Federation architectural style.

The Rocks, View Terrace

"View Terrace" are two heritage listed terrace houses along Gloucester Street in The Rocks. They were built in 1892 in the Victorian Italianate architectural style as part of an original line of five terrace houses. In 1911-1912 Cumberland Street was realigned and in doing so broke through the Gloucester Street alignment at Argyle Street which resulted in some of the terraces being demolished, The road level was raised by three metres and stairs built to Cumberland Street. They had remained as housing until 1980 when they became vacant and were in bad condition for a number of years. They were retained and conserved as part of a four level office development built behind them in 1986 along Cambridge Street.

Barangaroo, wharf

These fast ferries, operated by Captain Cook Cruises, run from the ferry wharf in inner city suburb of Barangaroo to various locations on Sydney Harbour and beyond such as Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, Luna Park, Sydney Fish Market, White Bay Cruise Terminal, Manly and Watsons Bay. The Australian National Maritime Museum at Pyrmont can be seen in the distance.

Paddington, mural

This mural appears on the side wall of a medical centre on the corner of Young Street and Oxford Street, in the inner city eastern suburb of Paddington. "Interwoven" was created in 2017 by artist Nastia Gladushchenko.

Paddington, war memorial

The Paddington War Memorial is located outside the Victoria Barracks along Oxford Street, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. It was erected in 1922 and features a single granite monolith set on three granite steps. The base has been squared with names engraved and gilded on three of the four polished granite sides. Inscription reads: For King and Country. In honor of the Paddington men who fought and in loving memory of those who fell during the Great War 1914-1918. Erected by the citizens of Paddington. Their duty done. Greater love hath no man.

Darling Harbour, Starship Sydney

Starship Sydney, seen here moored at King Street Wharf at Darling Harbour, is a large cruising glass vessel with three metre high surround glass windows which provide unrestricted views. It has a sister ship called Starship Aqua.

Millers Point, Glover Cottages

The "Glover Cottages" are located on top of a rock shelf above Kent Street, in the inner city suburb of Millers Point. These heritage listed, semi-detached stone cottages were built in 1820 as part of a group of buildings owned by James Glover. Some of these were demolished and redeveloped in the 1880s, while more were demolished during the black plague resumption works in 1900, with only Glover Cottages surviving. It features one of the one hundred and one green plaques which were erected around Sydney in 1988, celebrating historic places, people and events.

Dawes Point, Garrison Terrace

"Garrison Terrace" is a row of heritage listed terrace houses along Lower Fort Street, in the inner city suburb of Dawes Point. This house is located on the corner of Lower Fort Street and Trinity Avenue and was designed by Charles Rosenthal and James Louat and built around 1907 in the Federation Queen Anne architectural style.

Paddington, St Francis of Assisi's Catholic Church

St. Francis of Assisi's Catholic Church is located along Oxford Street, in the inner city eastern suburb of Paddington. This heritage listed church was designed by John Bede Barlow and built in 1890 in a combination of Victorian Academic Gothic and Victorian Romanesque architectural styles. Additions were made in 1915, designed by Bart Moriarty.

Suncorp Place

Suncorp Place is one of Sydney's tallest skyscrapers rising 42 levels above Grosvernor Street, George Street and Lang Street. It was designed by Joseland & Gilling architects and completed in 1982 as commercial offices for Qantas, then became the AAPT Centre and now Suncorp Place.

Millers Point, Roslyn Packer Theatre

Roslyn Packer Theatre is located along Hickson Road, in the inner city suburb of Millers Point, opposite the Walsh Bay wharves. It seats up to 896 people and is managed by the Sydney Theatre Company, which was established in 1978 and also manages The Wharf Theatre located opposite at piers 6/7. The theatre integrates heritage elements of the former Bond Stores into the venue. It was originally known as the Sydney Theatre but was renamed in 2015, to honour the philanthropist and supporter of the arts.

Darlinghurst, bandstand (Theme Day: Music)

This bandstand pavilion is located in Green Park, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. The heritage listed, two storey octagonal bandstand with a brick enclosed ground floor, was erected in 1925 to host public band concerts which were a popular feature of Sydney life in the interwar years. It was converted to a café in the early 1990s with an enclosed first floor. Set in its western wall is the foundation stone of the park which was originally on the corner of Victoria Street and Burton Street and is inscribed ‘Green Park Benjamin Palmer Mayor 1875-76’.

Paddington, George Smith Memorial Hall

The George Smith Memorial Hall is located along Newcombe Street, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. This heritage listed building was built around 1910 in the Federation Romanesque architectural style for the former Paddington Methodist Church, now Paddington Uniting Church. It now houses offices for the Uniting Church, Eastside Arts, Paddington Markets and Community Mental Health Services.

Art Gallery of New South Wales, sculpture

This is one of four relief panels which adorns the facade of the Art Gallery of New South Wales along Art Gallery Road at The Domain. The original wing and facade were built between 1896 and 1909. The Trustees decided to beautify it with a series of six bronze relief panels designed to depict the six "distinctive historical art periods" of the Assyrian, Egyptian, Grecian, Roman, Gothic and Renaissance but only the four older of the six intended panels were ever completed. The Assyian period is represented by "Assur Natsir Pal, King of Assyria" created by Gilbert Bayes PRBS in 1906. It depicts Ashurnasirpal II, from 883-859 B.C., with the Queen at the opening of a new building. After the death of Tiglath-Pileser III, Assyria had been reduced to comparative powerlessness, but under him the boundaries of the empire were extended, palaces, temples and other buildings were built, whose elaborate sculptures and rich paintings culminated the first period of Assyrian Art. The name "Giotto" is one of 32 artists lettered in bronze below the entablature.

Paddington Town Hall

Paddington Town Hall is located on the corner of Oxford Street and Oatley Road, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. This heritage listed building was designed by John Edward Kemp and built in 1891 in the Victorian Free Classical architectural style.

Paddington, Old Manse

The Old Manse stands beside the former St John's Presbyterian Church, along Oxford Street, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. This heritage listed, two storey building was built in the Colonial Georgian architectural style in 1845 and was used as a school house. The church and manse were redeveloped in 2015 and this building is now home to the offices of a real estate agent.

Marrickville, Cooks River, sunset

This sunset view is reflected in the Cooks River, between the inner west suburb of Marrickville and the south western suburb of Earlwood. This view is from a reserve close to Undercliffe Bridge which carries Illawarra Road over the river.

"Pendower" is a heritage listed house located along Oxford Street, in the eastern suburb of Paddington. It was built in the Federation Queen Anne architectural style as a residence but in recent years has been used as an art gallery known as The Caspium Gallery. A sign declares that it is currently "For Lease".

Paddington, school

Paddington Public School is located along Oxford Street, in the eastern suburb of Paddington. This heritage listed building was designed by G A Mansfield and built in 1856 in the Victorian Italianate architectural style. The two additional wings were designed by W E Kemp and built in 1893 in the Federation Free Classical architectural style.

Darlinghurst, Taylor Square, art

This artwork has been installed in Taylor Square, on the corner of Oxford Street and Flinders Street, in the inner city suburb of Darlinghurst. "40 Years of Love" was created by the Goldberg Aberline Studio (GAS) for the City of Sydney as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. The symbols featured include those for repression, adversity, freedom, inclusion, diversity and love.

Paddington Uniting Church is located long Oxford Street, in the eastern suburb of Paddington. This heritage listed building was designed by Thomas Rowe and built in 1877 in the Victorian Romanesque architectural style as the Paddington Methodist Church.

Botanic Gardens, Lotus Pond

The Lotus Pond in the Royal Botanic Gardens has no plants visible above the water in the middle of winter. The fountain in the centre is known as the Bird Bath Fountain, first installed before 1879 but replaced in 1987, due to damage. The pond looks very different in spring.

Merchant Pacific House is a commercial building along York Street, opposite the Queen Victoria Building. The heritage listed former warehouse was designed by Spain, Cosh & Minett and built in 1915 in the Federation architectural style. It was previously known as Leitch House.

The Egyptian period is represented by "Queen Hatasu of Egypt" created by Countess Feodora Gleichen in 1906 and unveiled in 1907. It depicts Queen Hatasu, or Hatshepsut, giving directions for the construction of her famous avenue of Ram-headed Sphinxes, from her temple, Deir-el-Bahari, to the bank of the Nile, and thence to the farther shore of the Temple of Karnak. The name "Raphael" is one of 32 artists lettered in bronze below the entablature.

Millers Point, St Brigid's Roman Catholic Church and School

St Brigid's Roman Catholic Church and School is located along Kent Street, in the inner city suburb of Millers Point. It was originally a single storey, two classroom stone building designed by Ambrose Hallen and Mortimer Lewis, built in 1835 in the Georgian architectural style. The sanctuary was added in the late 1860s in matching stone. The upper level was a dramatic change made in 1933, designed by Roarty & Roarty in the art deco style.

Botanic Gardens, Main Pond

The view across Main Pond in the Royal Botanic Gardens on a clear Winter day, towards the Venus Fountain statue in the Main Pond of the Royal Botanic Gardens. The original marble sculpture was erected before 1880 but had badly deteriorated and was replaced in 1994 by a copy cast in bronze.

Macquarie Street, The Astor

The Astor is a residential apartment building located on the corner of Macquarie Street and Phillip Lane. This heritage listed, thirteen storey building was designed by Esplin & Mould and constructed in 1923 in the Interwar Free Classical architectural style.

Botanic Gardens, PlantClinic

‘PlantClinic’ is a plant disease research laboratory, in the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was opened in 2017 and conducts research and scientific work on plant diseases that pose a significant threat to Australia. The buildings above are Sydney Tower, MLC Centre, Deutsche Bank Place and Chifley Tower.

Botanic Gardens, sculpture

"Magnolia" is a sculpture created by Bronwyn Oliver in 1999, which sits in a garden bed in the Royal Botanic Gardens. The same artist also created another sculpture nearby in the gardens called "Palm".

Botanic Gardens, bench

The Henry Kendall memorial seat when it was located near the Woolloomooloo Gate entrance of the Royal Botanic Gardens. The art deco style seat of carved sandstone was commissioned by Mrs A. Hamilton-Grey and designed by Wilfred Rhodes in memory of the poet Henry Kendall. It features two winged horses, Pegasus from Greek mythology, which were carved by L. Bicego in 1939. The back of the seat has inscribed lines from Kendall's works: "All my days have been the days of a laborious life and ever on my struggling soul has burnt the fierce light of this hurried sphere."

The Trustees decided to beautify it with a series of six bronze relief panels designed to depict the six "distinctive historical art periods" of the Assyrian, Egyptian, Grecian, Roman, Gothic and Renaissance but only the four older of the six intended panels were ever completed. The Grecian period is represented by "Phryne before Praxiteles" created by Percival Ball at the Singer and Sons Foundry in England in 1900 and unveiled in 1903. Phryne was an ancient Greek courtesan and model shown before the sculptor Praxiteles from the fourth century BC. The name "Titian" is one of 32 artists lettered in bronze below the entablature.

Bronte, Waverley Cemetery

Waverley Cemetery overlooks the Pacific Ocean, in the eastern suburb of Bronte. The first interment took place here in 1877 and this heritage listed sandstone administration building along St. Thomas Street was built around 1880 in the Victorian architectural style. The building in summer can be seen here.

Millers Point, Towns Place North

A view of Towns Place North from Pier 8/9 Wharf on Walsh Bay, in the inner city suburb of Millers Point. The two storey timber-framed weatherboard building was built in 1910 as a detached office building for the port facilities at the Walsh Bay wharves. The former warehouses along The Promenade have been converted to apartments with shops, restaurants and cafes.

The Domain, NSW Police Wall of Remembrance

The NSW Police Wall of Remembrance is located in the Crescent Precinct of The Domain. It was erected in 1999 for New South Wales police officers who have lost their lives in the course of their duty. The front of the memorial with the list of police officers' names can be seen here. City buildings including Sydney Tower can be seen in the distance.

Waverley, reservoir

A side view of the heritage listed water reservoir which is located along Paul Street, in the eastern suburb of Waverley. Nicknamed "Stonehenge", Waverley Reservoir No.1 was completed in 1887 and was the last of four reservoirs built to augment the Botany Swamps Scheme. The other three reservoirs were Crown Street Reservoir in 1859, Paddington Reservoir in 1864 and Woollahra Reservoir in 1880.

Surry Hills, Commercial Bank building

The former Commercial Bank building is located between Flinders Street and Bourke Street at Taylor Square, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. It was built in 1910 and was previously home to the Taylor Square Hotel and once known as the T2 building.This building previously featured an artwork on its facade called "Always Was, Always Will Be" by Reko Rennie.

Redfern, art

This bronze triptych artwork is located in the grounds of St Vincents de Paul Catholic Church, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. It shares the thoughts of Father Ted Kennedy who tells the story of "Mum Shirl", Colleen Shirley Perry, a powerful advocate for Aboriginal rights and welfare. She assisted in establishing the Aboriginal Medical and Legal Service in Redfern in the 1970s, visited prisoners in prison, opened her home to help the addicted and homeless and helped raise over 60 children. Both Shirl and Ted are depicted in the artwork.

Rookwood, Eternal Rest Complex (Theme Day: Spirit)

The Eternal Rest Complex is a contemporary chapel located on the corner of Barnet Avenue and Haslem Drive, in Rookwood Cemetery in the western suburb of Rookwood. "Victory" is the sculpture of Jesus Christ created by Linda Karfeld and dedicated in 2004.
