Birchgrove, Lady Wakehurst

The Lady Wakehurst is a former Sydney ferry that is normally moored at Snails Bay at Birchgrove.This 144 foot motor vessel was launched in 1974 and remained in service until 1996, but has been used occasionally when other ferries were out of service. It can now be chartered for cruises on Sydney Harbour for up to 650 passengers. The ferry is named after Lady Margaret Wakehurst, wife of Baron John De Vere Loder Wakehurst, former Governor of New South Wales.

  4. Gemma, I'm not quite sure whether these old ferries were normally blue and white. They may have changed the livery of the Sydney ferries, a few times over the years.

    WATER ON WEDNESDAY

    Water on Wednesday
    And other days too,
    Water for me, friend,
    And water for you;

    Water as ocean
    And water as sea,
    Water for you, friend,
    And water for me;

    Every day water
    In puddle or ice
    Or snowflakes or mist—
    Oh, water is nice!

  9. minor, this bay is quite a distance from Circular Quay. You would need to catch a ferry out to the inner west suburb of Birchgrove, maybe about ten minutes away from the quay. The Birchgrove ferry wharf is near this bay.
