Bronte, Waverley Cemetery

The entrance to Waverley Cemetery, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, in the eastern suburb of Bronte. The first interment took place here in 1877 and there are more than 50,000 gravesites and memorials over 40 acres. The front gates are a memorial to the residents of the area who died during World War I and World War II.

  1. Cemeteries has a lot of history especially if it is a well maintained one. Is that a small chapel inside?

    1. It's the administration building but I don't know if it was ever used as a chapel.

  7. Hi Jim. Graveyard entrances are such foreboding places and your photo of these ominous gates are no exception. Thx for visiting my blog while I have been so quiet. Have been travelling. We took plenty of photos on our journey and plan to depart from my daily post of Melbourne for a while and post images of Marrakech, Malta, Athens and Santorini. Ciao J.

  13. If you have to die (as most of us do), you might as well have a view of the ocean for your final resting place!
