This building is located on the corner of Regent Street and Wells Street, in the inner city suburb of Redfern. The Mont De Piete is an institutional pawnbroker and lending agency, run as a charity in Europe from Renaissance times until today. The lower text refers to Alexander Margoschis, a local pawnbroker who was involved in a notorious murder nearby in 1887. The building now houses what is described as an old world gin bar, which also does cocktails.

I like the architecture. The building seems well kept up.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great building, Jim!
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of a gin and cocktail bar shop, a place that presumably does not have wines and beers. Do they have enough customers?
ReplyDeleteAn alternative to wine bars, which are popping up all over the city these days. I've been to a whisky bar before but this is the first gin bar I've seen.
DeleteThe design is not like the ones you used to feature here. I like it.

Photo Cache, I'm trying to feature all sorts of architecture from around the city.

Hello, I like the architecture. I have seen the whisky bars but not gin. Great building. Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteLovely sky and a great building!
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Lena
Loved the building. Great captured.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend.
Sydney has such interesting architecture and so different from each of the other capital cities. I think the sandstone she stands on has a great influence.
ReplyDeleteThis building is a great example. Great photo.
Best wishes,
