These former tram sheds are located at the end of MacArthur Street, between Omnibus Lane and The Goods Line, in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. The Ultimo Tram Depot opened in 1899 adjacent to the Ultimo Power Station and Darling Harbour railway line for tram services operating from Erskineville to Pyrmont and Ryde. The tram sheds were converted to offices in 1981 as part of the Powerhouse Museum (Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences) development.

Nice they retained them for use, the ones in Reading near me were demolished for a shopping centre
ReplyDeleteSame here! Great that the former tram sheds were retained, renovated and reused as the Powerhouse Museum. Love the architecture and love the museum's collection.

A good conversion. They remind me somewhat of architectural styles here.

ReplyDeleteStill a tram in Sydney?
ReplyDeletes.c, trams operated in Sydney from 1879 to 1961. They returned as light rail in 1997 with extensions in 2000 and 2014. There is also a major new line currently under construction.
