This is part of a mural on the side of a shop on the corner of King Street and Rochford Street, in the inner city suburb of Newtown. The artwork was created by Peque and dedicated to his crew of mural artists. This wall has featured a number of artworks by this artist over the years which can be seen here and here.

Botanc Gardens, Venus Italica

Vaucluse House, stable
This heritage building is located on the Vaucluse House estate, which gave its name to the eastern suburb of Vaucluse. It was originally used as the stable for Vaucluse House, a mansion designed by Henry Browne Hayes and built in 1803 in the the Gothic Revival style. This two storey sanstone building with stalls, carriage and tack rooms and fruit storage areas was designed by George Cookney and built in 1829.

Darling Harbour, Viking vessel, Jorgen Jorgensen
The Jorgen Jorgensen was moored at the Australian National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour for a recent Vikings exhibition. It was built and launched in Perth, Australia in 1987 as a reconstruction of the 9th century Gokstad Viking ship. The ship was named after the Danish adventurer Jorgen Jorgenson (1780-1841) who was transported as a convict to Tasmania and led a colourful life in colonial Australia in the early 1800s.

Botanic Gardens, Japanese Lantern
This Japanese Lantern is located in the Japanese Garden in the Royal Botanic Gardens. The Japanese Garden was established in 1921 and featured three sandstone lanterns of varying heights. This lantern is one of three white granite lanterns which were donated by Sydney's sister-city Nagoya, Japan in 1983.

Botanic Gardens, Wuganmagulya
"Wuganmagulya" is an artwork in the walkway along the shore of Farm Cove in the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was created by indigenous artist Brenda L. Croft in 2000 and comprises terrazzo and stained concrete insets into the pathway depicting figures such as this kangaroo, from Sydney rock carvings, some of which are now lost. The names of people, places, animals, tools and rituals from the many groups of Aboriginal people in the Sydney area are also etched along the kerb.

Kogarah, Presbyterian Church
This former Presbyterian Church is located in Kensington Street, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. It was built around 1890 in the Victorian Gothic architectural style. It became a church hall when a new Soldiers' Memorial Presbyterian Church was built next to it in 1928. When Kirkplace opened in the office building behind it in 2009, the church became a medical centre and the hall was converted for use by a physiotherapy and sports clinic.

Paddington, Juniper Hall
Juniper Hall is located on the corner of Oxford Street and Ormond Street, in the inner city suburb of Paddington. This heritage listed building was designed by Robert Cooper and built in 1825 in the Georgian architectural style. In recent times it has been used as a portrait and photographic gallery and is now home of the Historic Houses Association of Australia.

Queen's Square, Taronga Wild! Rhinos
This is my last look at the "Taronga Wild! Rhinos" public art exhibition which was located around the city from February to April. "Chupa Chups" was created by Rain Hart, inspired by a a strong tribal feel. It was located in Queen's Square, in front of the Hyde Park Barracks Museum, near St Mary's Cathedral. All the rhinos will be on display at The Star casino in Pyrmont from 10th May and will be auctioned off on 14th May to raise funds for Taronga Zoo’s Black Rhino breeding program and conservation projects.

Waverley, tower
This telecommunications tower, behind a telephone exchange rises above a row of town houses in Birrell Street, in the eastern suburb of Waverley. The original Waverley Radio Telephone Tower was built in 1945. This 82 metre structure supports radio systems for telephone, television and data services.

Kurnell, Silver Beach
Silver Beach is located along the shore of Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Kurnell. This viewing platform with a surfboard bench, looks out on the rockwall 'groynes' in the bay constructed to prevent severe beach erosion. In the distance is the long Kurnell wharf used by oil tankers for the nearby oil refineries. On this really cool day there weren't many people swimming but there was one brave soul in the water.

Anzac War Memorial
This is a detailed view of the western side of the Anzac War Memorial, which stands in Hyde Park South. The building was designed by Bruce Dellit in the Art Deco architectural style and completed in 1934. The sculptures and bas reliefs that adorn the building were created by Rayner Hoff, who also created the powerful "Sacrifice" sculpture inside. It was built as a memorial to the Australian Imperial Force of World War I and is the focus of commemoration ceremonies on Anzac Day, 25th April, which marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the war.

Martin Place, The Cenotaph
The Cenotaph is a war memorial located in Martin Place, in front of the General Post Office (GPO), between George Street and Pitt Street. The word 'cenotaph' means empty tomb, a sepulchral monument in honour of a person whose body is elsewhere. It was unveiled on Anzac Day, 25th April 1929. The model for the soldier facing east was Private William Piggot Darby. The model for the sailor facing west was Leading Seaman John William Varco. The inscription on the south side reads "To Our Glorious Dead" and on the north side reads "Lest We Forget" which is a line from "Recessional", a Rudyard Kipling poem.

Arncliffe, St Francis Xavier’s Convent
The former St Francis Xavier’s Convent is located along Forest Road, in the southern suburb of Arncliffe. It was built in the late 1800s in the Victorian Italianate architectural style as a house for surveyor James Parish and known as "Mintaville". The Sisters of the Order of St Joseph bought it in 1910 for use as a covent. The Catholic church purchased part of the land in 1911 to build the adjacent church and school along Forest Road, which I featured over the last two days.

Coogee, Mina Wylie sculpture
This sculpture of Mina Wylie is located at the entrance of Wylie's Baths, a tidal pool at the south end of Coogee Beach, in the eastern suburb of Coogee. Wilhelmina (Mina) Wylie was a silver medallist at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden where women's swimming events were held for the first time. A resident of Coogee, she was taught to swim by her father Henry Wylie, who built Wylie's Baths in 1907. This life-sized bronze monument on the cliff looking out onto the Pacific Ocean was designed by Eileen Slarke in 2001, based on a photograph of Mina at the Olympic Games.

Vaucluse, Greycliffe House
Greycliffe House is located in Nielsen Park, looking out on Sydney Harbour, in the eastern suburb of Vaucluse. This sandstone house was designed by John Frederick Hilly and built in 1851 in the Gothic Revival style. Since 1975 it has been the headquarters for the National Park and Wildlife Service.

Vaucluse House, fountain
This fountain stands outside Vaucluse House, in the eastern suburb of Vaucluse, which is named after the historic estate. Vaucluse House is a mansion designed by Henry Browne Hayes and built in 1803 in the the Gothic Revival style with additions made in 1828. The fountain was installed in the pleasure garden in 1862. In 1915 Vaucluse House became Australia’s first official house museum.

Darling Harbour, Cockle Bay Wharf
The buildings at Darling Harbour feature a new 'inflatable' brand identity with promotional signs in the style of inflated balloons. The Cockle Bay Wharf building, on the eastern side of Cockle Bay, has restaurants, cafes, bars, a nightclub and a function centre, is featuring this giant "EAT" sign above one of the main entrances. Other promo signs in the area are "SHOP" and "AHOY".

Cockle Bay Wharf, Dancing Brolgas, fountain
The Dancing Brolgas fountain is located at the front of the Cockle Bay Wharf building at Darling Harbour. It was designed by Terrance Plowright and created in cast stainless steel in 1998. The Brolga is a native bird also known as the Australian Crane.

Campbells Cove, Taronga Wild! Rhinos
This painted rhino sculpture is part of the "Taronga Wild! Rhinos" public art exhibition located around the city to raise awareness and funds for Taronga Zoo’s Black Rhino breeding program and conservation projects. "Golden Baby" was created by Ken Done, one of Australia's most famous artists. This baby rhino, currently located at Campbells Cove at The Rocks, is smaller than the other ones I have featured before. I managed to snap the tall ship Southern Swan in the background just as it was departing.

Botanic Gardens, Sydney Tropical Centre (Theme Day: Triangles)
The Sydney Tropical Centre in the Royal Botanic Gardens houses displays of tropical plants. The Pyramid Glasshouse opened in 1972 and is linked by an underground foyer to the Arc Glasshouse which opened in 1990. The glasshouses were closed to the public early last year for redevelopment but the work has not begun yet.
